A scholarly young woman must confront the issue of her mother's untimely death and the possible consequences of her own complicated inheritance in this time-bending play about the elusive nature of madness.

This is a world premiere of a collaborative, ensemble based work exploring women and madness and the link to creative genius. Commissioned by RTE in 2005, it has been being developed through ongoing workshops and retreats over the past four years.

Melanie Marnich’s These Shining Lives chronicles the real lives of the women of the Radium Dial Company in Ottawa, Illinois. Catherine Donahue finds work painting watch faces at the Radium Dial Company in Ottawa. These Shining Lives follows the ten-year span between Catherine’s’s first days as a watch painter to her final days as she fought fiercely – though dying from brutal radium poisoning that painfully degenerated her bones – as part of a class action law suit to hold the Radium Dial Company accountable for its negligence.

Fulfilling our mission of supporting women artists and bringing female stories to life on stage, Rivendell will again offer a month long workshop series of new plays by women. The program focus on three new works in progress which will rehearse for a one to two week process with the playwright, director, dramaturg, and professional cast. The process will culminate in staged reading of each play in front of audiences with outreach activities and panel discussions. There will be a suggested donation of $10 for the public readings.
